Broke Another New Year's Resolution?
Try a Technicolor Vision Instead

How often do we make resolutions for January 1 with the full intention of committing to them and by February 1 they are dead in the water?  If you're anything like the typical American, I would say that more often than not you have the same resolutions year after year after year.  Is it to gain financial control of your life?  Do you want to lose weight?  Do you want to get more organized?  Do you want to quit smoking?  These resolutions top most of our lists come January 1.

January 1 seems to be the preferred date for us to begin new habits.  It's the beginning of the New Year and likely in the past week we have been reflecting on what we didn't get done during the previous year.  We vow to change our lives and we are committed to that change.  So what happens between January 1 and the day that we drop those fledgling habits?  Procrastination!  Let's face it; making changes to our lives is hard work.  We often resist it.  Or we aren't committed to the change because it is for someone else.  Or it's just easier to stay in bed on a cold morning than head out to the gym.  So we put it off year after year and feel even more guilty about it.

Would you like this year to be different?  Do you vow that this is finally the year that you are going to get your life under control?  If so, here is a tool that may help you accomplish whatever goal you want.  It's called a Technicolor vision.  What the Technicolor vision does is it allows you to see what your life will be like when you accomplish your goal.  Here are some steps to get you started.

  1. Find a quiet place where you can be with no interruptions.  Carve out a block of time for yourself; say 30 minutes or an hour (or even longer if you can manage it)

  2. Clear your mind of any distractions.  This time is for you and you alone to get clarity on what you really want.

  3. Pick out a date that you want to imagine your life on.  It could be a year from now, 6 months, 3 months, or even 1 month.  The date doesn't matter.

  4. Start imagining your life, as it will be when you've achieved your goal.  Here are some ideas to get you started:
    • How will you look?
    • How will you feel?
    • What will your energy level be?
    • Who will be with you?
    • What will you be doing?
    • What are the sounds around you?
    • What can you smell?
    • What are you seeing?
    • What are you tasting?
    • What can you touch?
    • What emotions are you feeling?
    • How has your life changed?
  1. Some important things to remember:
    • Do not include any negativity in your visualization.  You want to put the focus on the positive.  The Law of Attraction states that whatever we put our focus, energy, and attention on we get more of, whether it is positive or negative.  Make your visualization a positive one.
    • Really see and feel your vision.  Know that it is yours and that you can have it all.
    • You have everything in yourself right now to achieve all of the goals that you want.  Believe it!
  1. When you've finished your visualization, write it down.  Include as much detail as possible so that the Universe will know what to deliver.  If we don't make an order, the Universe cannot deliver what we want. This is your Technicolor vision!

Congratulations!  You've done it.  Now what do you do with it?  The recommendations of all the experts who use this technique say that in order for it to be effective you must look at it regularly.  Post it somewhere where you can see it every day (I post mine in the bathroom!)  Read it in the morning when you get up and in the evening before bed.  Absorb the feelings that you get from it.  This is the power of the vision.  You are experiencing your life as it is going to be when you achieve your goals.

The beauty of the Technicolor vision is that it makes a dream (i.e. a resolution) into a living, breathing goal - something that will move you forward instead of making you feel guilty because you just broke it again.  When you do a vision, it makes it easy to see where you are heading.  The commitment is there because you can feel how your life will be improved when you achieve your goal.  You feel it in every cell of your body.

I'd like to leave you with one more important point.  This is your vision and only yours.  It's your chance to decide what you really want without the influence of others.  Certainly if you have people in your life that will be affected by your achieving your goals you can consider them but only after you have completed the vision for yourself.  This is not being selfish.  The greatest gift you can give to another is to be happy, fulfilled, and authentic.  Take this time for yourself.  You deserve it!
